Our Company

Ataraxia is a vision of new possibilities in the allocation of capital to create profits while addressing social and environmental inequalities.

About Ataraxia

Founded in April 2017, Ataraxia is a vision for the future of investment management and a concrete demonstration of profitable, impact-driven, social and environmental capital allocation.

Systemic, regenerative investing is contextual; within and for our communities, our natural and social environment and our relationship with the systems that nurture humanity, not only our financial success.

Jonathan Jenny

With almost 30 years of experience in the investment and private banking industry, Jonathan is in a unique position to structure meaningful and effective systemic change, environmentally regenerative, and socially impactful portfolio strategies. Prior to his work in consulting, Jonathan has held numerous senior positions in institutional portfolio and private client wealth management, mostly in Europe, as Chief Investment Officer at HSBC, Global Wealth Advisor at BNP Paribas, Deputy Head of Advisory at UBS, and Head of Structured Products at Chase Manhattan (just prior to its merger with JP Morgan).

Before founding Ataraxia in New York, Jonathan created  a Geneva-based, Swiss management consulting firm specializing in restructuring and strategy for companies in the industrial, aeronautical, luxury goods, and information technology sectors. Much of the inspiration for the evolution of ESG investing has been gleaned from some of the leading institutional investors in Europe, where legislation and regulators have taken an increasingly influential role in getting companies to disclose more non-financial data to enable investors to evaluate the impacts of portfolio companies’ business activity and strengthen risk management procedures with material ESG data.

Born in New York city with formative childhood experiences in Kenya, England, France, and Switzerland, Jonathan holds a B.A. from Haverford College in Sociology. A dual U.S./Swiss citizen, he is a retired Captain of the Swiss Army. He was formerly a Registered Representative with the FCA (UK) regulator, a former investment bank license holder with FINMA (Switzerland), and is most recently a Series 65 Registered Investment Adviser Representative in New York State.

Joshua Harrison is co-director of the Center for the Study of the Force Majeure, a research institution based at the University of California, Santa Cruz that brings together artists, scientists, engineers and planners and visionaries to design mitigation systems and policies that respond to the issues raised by global temperature rise at the scale that they present. He joined the Center in 2012 and manages strategy, large projects, and overall development for the Center.

Josh leads the Living Forest Project, a multidisciplinary group working with the US Forest Service, the State of California,  local communities, business and policy leaders to build a systems approach to the fire and water crises in California. Living Forests is working to build the planning infrastructure for a wood-based circular economy in the dryland forest regions of the western United States. In addition to managing a 300,000-acre landscape survey in the Eastern Sierra for the US Forest Service, Living Forests is actively working on public art and education programs designed to give ordinary citizens the tools and agency to better understand living with the fire-adaptive forests of California and the intermountain West.

Josh is actively involved with developing regenerative business systems where the success of the company is directly tied to bringing the planet back into ecological balance. He has co-founded several companies active in regeneration, including a California based startup that is building low-carbon, advanced mass timber building solutions and a New York-based startup focusing on returning ecological function to urban areas using biological processes and smart “lo-tech” solutions

Josh also serves on the board of The Gaia Institute, a research center that explores how human activities and waste products can be treated to increase ecological productivity, biodiversity, environmental quality, and economic well being.

Josh lives in New York with his wife and daughter and splits his time between UC Santa Cruz and the Big Apple.

Investment management re-imagined.

Ataraxia is a New York registered investment advisor specialized in systemic change, environmentally regenerative, and socially just investment management solutions for institutional investors. Registration does not imply competence.

The company is a minority-owned investment manager and was founded in April 2017 to provide institutional investors with an alternative, innovative investment management strategy for the transition to social and environmental justice. We practice what we preach.

Ataraxia does not promote past performance as results will be specific to each client and dependent on the criteria that are taken into consideration when defining an investment strategy together with other factors, some of which are not exclusively dependent on past numerical performance. Clients and their strategies are kept confidential and historical success should be of little comfort in this unprecedented era of change.

Investments engage risks and their value can decrease as well as increase. Past performance is not a predictive indicator of future results, especially in innovative investment programs. Ataraxia makes no claims as to the profitable performance of any services, either directly, or indirectly via Links to third parties available through this Website.
